Black Forest Protein Donuts

    Just amazing Black Forest Protein Donuts with a rich chocolate protein cake donut, protein frosting and cherry topping! These black forest donuts are healthy, low fat and sugar-free too.

    Frosting:

    Cherry Topping:

    1. Preheat oven to 350°F and spray a 12-hole donut pan with cooking spray to grease.

    2. In a large bowl, whisk together applesauce, egg whites and yogurt.

    3. In another bowl, mix flour, protein powder, black cocoa, cocoa powder and baking powder.

    4. Add dry mix to wet and mix with a large spoon until combined.

      Mixture will be runny.

    5. Divide mixture evenly among donut pan cavities, filling about ⅔-¾ way up.

    6. Bake for 18 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the donut comes out clean.

      Let cool for 5 minutes and remove from pan. Transfer to a cooling rack to cool.

    Cherry Topping:

    1. Heat cherries, lemon juice, sweetener and cornstarch in a small saucepan over medium, stirring occasionally until fruit begins to break down and bubble, about 7-10 min.

    2. Use a spoon or potato masher to mash to desired consistency.

    3. Remove from heat let cool (place in fridge).

    Frosting and Assemble:

    1. Let donuts and cherry topping cool completely.

    2. In a bowl, combine yogurt and protein powder.

    3. Use the back of a spoon or knife to spread frosting on top of donuts, and then add cherry mixture on top.
